Hapless peasant Nemorino is head over heels in love with Adina, but to no avail. He seeks out a love potion from a travelling quack, which he hopes will turn her head despite the fact that it smells suspiciously like cheap Bordeaux. He’s convinced it’s working when the village girls start to pay him some attention. Adina is mad with jealousy. Can it be that she loves him after all?
PRAISE FOR BMO’S “ELIXIR OF LOVE”
The Boston Globe said “Midsummer Opera Brews Up a Potent Elixir”:
…sewing it all together was Wyner’s vibrant conducting and Antonio Ocampo-Guzman’s fluid stage direction. These two collaborators seemed to share a unified vision for how best to brew up Donizetti’s own elixir of delight: one part gleaming wit, one part rustic sweetness. Placebo effect? Not a chance.
The Musical Intelligencer discovered “BMO Pours Fine Potion” :
Boston Midsummer Opera’s ebullient production of Donizetti’ s The Elixir of Love, featuring soprano Joanna Mongiardo as a confident Adina and Eric Barry as a hilarious and vulnerable Nemorino, could be the highlight of your summer theatrical experience.
