Vira Slywotsky
Soprano
Vira Slywotzky was born and raised in Cambridge, MA.
In 2008/2009, Ms. Slywotzky was a Young Artist with Seattle Opera; in October she will return for a second residency. She has performed with the Opera Company of the Highlands and with Chautauqua Opera where for two seasons, in addition to roles on the mainstage, she sang cabarets, recitals and concerts with the Chautauqua Symphony.
Operatic roles include Nedda (I Pagliacci), Fiordiligi (Cosi Fan Tutte), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Countess Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Micaela (Carmen), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Giorgetta (Il Tabarro), Greta Fiorentino (Street Scene) and Rooster (The Cunning Little Vixen).
In 2008 Slywotzky became the new soprano of Mirror Visions Ensemble, a vocal trio that has commissioned sixty-nine works to French and English texts since its inception in 1992 and whose founder, Tobe Malawista, was recently named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by President Sarkozy. As a member of this group, Slywotzky performs new and old music in France and the United States.
As a solo recitalist she tours with programs of contemporary American songs as well as traditional art song repertoire.
In 2008 Slywotzky was a New England Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She is the recipient of a 2007 Richard F. Gold Career Grant.
Slywotzky received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and her masters in vocal performance from Mannes, The New School for Music.
In June Slywotzky will travel to Wales to represent USA in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
