Megan Roth
Mezzo-soprano

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ms. Roth currently resides in Boston, MA, where she has performed with the esteemed American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA , Opera Boston, and Boston Baroque. Ms. Roth’s inaugural performance in Boston was in Britannicus, a play by Jean Racine at the American Repertory Theatre. She performed the role of Octavia, a character she created together with director Robert Woodruff. Of this performance Robert Nesti of the EDGE Boston wrote, “Megan Roth adds immeasurably to the production’s mysterious air with her gorgeously sung arias that act as haunting respites in this gripping drama.”

In the 2007-2008 season, Ms. Roth performed with Opera Boston in the Boston premier of Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar, under the direction of Peter Sellars and Robert Castro. She then went on to cover the roles of Athamas and Ino in Handel’s Semele, in a collaborative production between Boston Baroque and Opera Boston. In August 2008, Ms. Roth performed the title role in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with Opera del West in Natick, MA .

Ms. Roth is an avid recitalist and has presented multiple recitals of art song, cabaret, and opera throughout the greater Boston area, Mt. Kisco, NY, and Highlands, NC.

Concert performances have included Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Bach Christ lag in Todes banden, Haydn Missa Cellensis, Handel Messiah, and Mozart Vesperae solennes de confessore with the Old North Senior Choir and Festival Chorus in Marblehead, MA .

In 2008, Ms. Roth was the 3rd place winner in the Lakes Region Opera Vocal Competition in NH.

She was the recipient of the Hannah Beaulieu Vocal Competition Award at Florida State University in 2005, as well as a finalist in the Orpheus Vocal Competition in Murphreesboro, TN.

Ms. Roth holds an Artist Certificate in Opera and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. Ms. Roth is also an accomplished violinist, and holds a Bachelor of Music with honor in Violin Performance from DePaul University. She was a regular member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra from 2001-2006.

Upcoming performances include the Mozart Requiem with the Old North Festival Chorus in Marblehead, MA in April 2009, and recitals in May and June 2009 at the Newton Music Academy and the Church of St. John the Evangelist respectively. Ms. Roth will make her debut with Boston Midsummer Opera as Dorabella in Così fan tutte in August 2009.
