Spanish-American tenor Eric Barry is “making an impressive mark” on opera and concert stages “with a clear timbre, evenness of projection and exceptional sensitivity” (Opera News). Mr. Barry begins the 2014-15 season with a gala performance of opera highlights with the Johnstown Symphony. He will perform in two of Mozart’s masterpieces, the first being Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with Opera Memphis, then debuts the title role of La clemenza di Tito with award-winning company Opera in the Heights in Houston.

He will also be making two additional important role debuts - Alfredo in La traviata with Shreveport Opera, and in 2015, Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, which will also be recorded with the Polish Radio Orchestra. On the concert stage this season Mr. Barry will sing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Indianapolis Symphony, Handel’s Messiah with the Winston-Salem Symphony, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the New Choral Society. Upcoming performances and debuts beyond this season include engagements with Opera Colorado, Florentine Opera, Orchestra Iowa, and more.

Last season he made headlines by taking over Pittsburgh Opera’s entire run of La bohème as Rodolfo, where Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Mr. Barry "deserves kudos" for his performance. He also performed the role of Rodolpho for his debut with North Carolina Opera. He returned to Amarillo Opera as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as made his debut with Shreveport Opera as Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore. On the orchestra stage, Mr. Barry made a debut with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra singing Verdi’s Messa da Requiem.

Eric Barry has become a favorite with the Beethoven Easter Festival and the Polish
Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, where he has sung and recorded Avito in Montemezzi’s L’amore dei
tre re, Don Luigi in Donizetti’s Maria Padilla, Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra as well as the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. This past spring he returned to Poland to sing the role of Pylade in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride.

Mr. Barry is well versed in early music and oratorio. His most notable performances have been Handel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Hodie, Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzes and selections from J.S. Bach’s St. John and St. Matthew Passions. He recently sang Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Mozart’s Requiem with the Munich Symphony on tour throughout the United States. Other operatic highlights include Arbace in Rossini’s Ciro in Babilonia at the Caramoor Music Festival, Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress, Florindo in Wolf Ferrari’s Le donne curiose, Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd with the National Symphony at Wolf Trap Opera, and Rodolfo in La bohème at Teatro Comunale di Sulmona, Italy. Mr. Barry holds a Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma from the School of Music at Yale University.
